Thursday 1st March
The children had lots of fun on World Book Day. Everybody dressed up as one of their favourite book characters. In Key Stage One the children took part in three activities: They shared the story Room on a Broom by Julia Donaldson and decorated wands; After hearing the story Stick Man by Julia Donaldson they used natural materials to create their own stick man and wrote about him; Using clay they created Little Red Riding Hood’s basket, decorated it and listened to Roald Dahl’s version in his book Revolting Rhymes.
In the Woodlands the children took part in four activities; they listened to the story Here Comes Frankie, and learnt about synaesthesia, they then drew coloured music; They listened to the story The Way Back Home by Oliver Jefferies, and designed a new mode of transport so that they could get back from the moon; they created puppets for the story Little Red Riding Hood and then acted out an alternative ending; and after sharing a range of books about dragons, they designed their own dragon based on the book Tell me a Dragon by Jackie Morris.
We enjoyed sharing the fun activities in a school assembly at the end of the day.
