School lunch alternative April to Oct 2017 AAt Oakfield Primary School, we believe that the best option for children at lunchtime is to have the hot school dinner, provided through our partnership with HC3S. We expect that parents of children in Key Stage 1 will take up the option of the Universal Infant Free School Meal. This is because we believe that the hot school dinner option is much better for the children’s learning and health. We recognise the evidence that states
• Children are better prepared for learning if they eat well
• Children make more progress if they have eaten the right nutritional lunch
• Only 1% of home provided packed lunches provide the correct nutrition
• Eating hot dinners is an important social occasion and the children learn vital social skills
HC3S provide all the nutrients that children require through the week. They produce a menu which has a three-weekly cycle. To view the latest menus and for more information on Hampshire’s school meals, click here.
HC3S provide excellent hot meals which are cooked on the premises. There is a choice of menu each day, individual dietary requirements can be catered for. The price of a school meal is £2.15 per day (with effect from 3rd April 2017) for children in Years 3 – 6 (children in Years R – 1 are entitled to free school meals). We request that parents pay for school meals on a weekly basis by sending the money on Monday. Credit will be given for absences and adjustments made the following week. We need to know if your child has any allergies so that we can be alert and take extra care.
Preferences can usually be made through the choices offered. We have an excellent team of lunchtime supervisors who are especially vigilant and keen to ensure the safety and happiness of every child at Oakfield. Parents receiving income support may be entitled to free school meals for their children.
Further information can be obtained from the school office. All such applications are treated with total confidentiality. Alternatively, children may bring a packed lunch or go home for lunch.
In addition to the hot school meals our school kitchen also provide a jacket potato and packed lunch alternative at the same price and for a pilot period starting on Monday 15th May 2017 a ‘Grab and Go’ menu will be available to Year 5 and 6 students. Copies of the menus are available below.
